Need advice, as im new to reefing.

How do I hold down a small loose mushroom? Like when it isn't attached to a frag plug.

Place on a piece of rock rubble and tie it down loosely with a rubber band for a week or two. It will will take onto the rock

Rock rubble could be used in a container that has slots that allows water flow. I had success attaching a jawbreaker shroom. I used a cherry tomato container, but a container that allows more flow is preferable.

Ok, the advice sounds great... however I'm limited on the amount of space I have in the tank so as to put a basket / container in. The 'shroom is smaller than a dime, so I will try a plastic sauce type container. Like the to-go sauce containers from restaurants? I have a few clean ones. I can make holes for flow. Can that potentially work?

yes, and with the flow holes, you can even put the lid on to make sure it doesn't float out.

We made a little Thunderdome.

If you have a piece of rock you want it to attach to you can cover the rock with some mesh and elastic band the mesh in place until it attaches. If it blows around a little under the mesh it won't go flying around the tank. This was for the tiny green mushroom by the left rubberband. It's gotten huge since then.

I do like that idea! I also have spare plastic mesh that came with a ceramic bio media... maybe I can rubber band over a frag disk. How long did it take to stick?

Within a week I think it had bonded to the rock and we removed the screen. It was in a shot glass previously with the same setup (mesh/elastic band) but there was too much flow and it kept tumbling in the shot glass instead of attaching to the pebbles in there so we went with this approach instead.

So I placed the shroom on a ceramic frag, covered with the plastic mesh and rubberbanded on both ends... now it's on my frag rack. Hopefully that should be enough to hold?

So long as the mesh holes are smaller than the mushroom that should at least keep it from blowing away.

If its dime sizes fully inflated its felt tip pen size at night time. See how it work but a shot glass with some rubble with mesh rubber banded over it in low flow area of tank for a week should do the trick.

I use these morph hospitals, they’re great. I haven’t lost a shroom since I’ve been using these.
I buy them from Gallery Aquatica. They are able to ship these internationally if needed.

I first saw them in a blog from Reef Builders.

Wow that is a great idea! In essence what I ended up building I guess, but I didn't know these existed. I wonder how small that mesh top can be made... would be a cool design for a paul b feeder for mandarins.

I’m sure it can be made smaller. You should shoot them a message, they’re very accommodating and might be able to work with you on a design.
