For me it has always been 2 part, easy to store and use, and relatively not prone to accidental spikes. What are some methods that other people are using?

Regular water changes, run test's once a month to monitor, and daily inspections of the tank. Like most people that have been in the hobby awhile I can look at the tank and you'll see if something is out of whack.

I am very new to the hobby, my tank has been up since 3/1/12 so far everything has been doing good. I have been noticing that my Alk has slowly declining I started out at 8.5 and now I am at 7.7 could someone please explain 2 part dosing in English so I can try and better understand. Sorry for sounding so newbish it I am.
A calcium reactor. Once it is dialed in it is very steady.
Two part for the most part is what it says. Part one is calcium and part two is alkalinity so you add part one to raise calcium and part two to raise alkalinity. You have to watch part two because it can and will push your ph too high if added to quick. Bulk reef supply sells a two part that is a three part. It adds magnesium to the equation. They have two different two parts. One will raise ph while the other will lower ph. I hope this helps.

Regular water changes with Alk and Ca provided by a calcium reactor using a Cole-Parmer peristaltic pump and AP Carbon Doser regulator. Rock steady.

I think a high quality 2 part doser like GHL profilux or litermeter 3 contributes to tank stability. So far my profilux SA has kept my alk/ca levels very stable at 7.5 dkh and 420 ppm. Besides a doser, I think a reliable ATO like Tunze osmolator is also esential in keeping your salinity (and tank) stable.
