Best way to kill Aiptasia

Hey Everyone, I have a pretty big outbreak of Aiptasia. I was wondering what is the best way to rid these little boogers? I was thinking of getting a Copper Band Butterfly this weekend to do the trick. Will this work? I've heard of a lot of people using them for this. Any Comments will be Great. Thanks

I just picked up a new copperband this past week and he has yet to touch one of the aptasia.All he eats at this point is clams.He wont even look at any prepared food.Beautiful fish though.

As far as the aptasia goes, I would try peppermint shrimp before getting a copperbanded butterfly if your only trying to get rid of the aptasia if your planning on a natural way to kill it.There is a large online retailer that sells farm-raised peppermint shrimp for this purpose. There is a few "solutions" out there that you can apply via a syringe.Although I do not have expierence with these so I cannot reccomend one to you.

I have had some bad outbrakes myself and have had to use everything from copper banded butterfly, pepermint shrimp and solutions that you apply onto the aptasia..

The solutions seem to kill the aptasia when you apply it, but then they come back kinda mutated so you have to apply a few times or use a big dose to kill them for good. It is an ok way to get rid of it but not the best.. use this if you have only a few aptasia to rid.. also I never had issues with any of the solutions I used. It never hurt anything in my tank and I have a mixed reef with many types of corals, clams and inverts

Using the copperbaded butterfly was the best way for me to rid the aptasia. My butterfly was awesome but took a little bit to start eatting the aptasia.. Lucky for me my butterfly would eat any food I put in the tank after I first got it to eat myisis ship.. After that it was a aptasia lawnmower! But once the aptasia was gone the butterfly would start to pick at some corals, no matter how much food I feed him he just had to graze and keep picking at my corals so he had to go..

Pepermint shrimp seem to just dissaper in my tank.. I have other shrimp in my tank so I know its not the water, but I think one of my fish eat them or something.. I just added 3 more to my tank today and they are allready gone or I just cant find them.

I would say try some store bought solution like aptasia X, joes juice, or stop aptasia if you only have a few aptais to deal with. If you have a lot then you need to get a copperbanded butterfly to rid them or use pepermint shrimp if you dont have hungry fish..

I know what you mean... I've to have had problems keeping Shrimp in the past. They just seem to like the Chamber of death to much. But now I have that all fixed up so they cant jump into the Chamber.

Why not try some Berghia nudi's??

I put 6 of them in my dads 65 gallon FOWLR about a year ago when he had the most MASSIVE aiptasia outbreak I had ever seen "well over 600 aiptasia's" and within I would say 2-3 months my 6 berghia's turned into about 30 or so berghia's and the tank had ZERO aiptasia in it

They have also come down in price ALOT since I had purchased them "I paid $25 a piece" and now I think you can get them for under $10 each so it is much more cost efficient, and they are hardy on top of easily breeding in the tank as long as there is a steady food supply for them

No problem on the advice,I hope it helps.Last time I seen these live aquaria had them.My buddy turned me onto them.He picked up 4 for his 75 gallon and within a month they destroyed all the aptasia.
