I"m wondering what is the best and affordable solution to measure the PH while provide accurate results. Test strips, PH meter and what make/brand?

Thanks

I was just wondering about this same question last week in regards to accuracy. I have read that probes are better than titration tests due to the fact that they are always measuring, fluctuation can be tracked, less chance of inaccuracy as far as things that can happen to a cuvette during the test. I recently started using the Neptune system to monitor PH however I also check that against a Hanna Checker. Hanna checker reads higher so I just try to make sure it stays consisted from the probe reading. I would recommend some sort of probe, maybe Milwaukee if all you're interested in is PH.

Thanks - what is the PH difference are you observing between the Neptune and the Hanna?

I didn't know Milwaukee has one, thanks - will look into that.

Cheers

If my hanna checker reads 8.4 my Neptune will read a bit lower like 8.1. I have only calibrated my Neptune once though and plan to do so again soon and compare. There are some threads here related to the difference between hanna and Neptune when it comes to accuracy. Milwaukee mc120 and mc122 seem to get decent reviews and its easy to get the probes and cal solutions.

How precise do you want it to be? I use the API test kit. It is cheap and easy to use. I have a hard time distinguishing colors, but directionally it works great. Is it 8.0 or 8.2 = great. Is it 7.8 or 8 = it doesn't really matter to me, either way I'm going to try to raise it slightly.

For me the true value is making sure the measurement is not completely out of line. I also find them to be consistent. I can consistently never tell if it my pH is 8.0 or 8.2 ;) .

This has been my FW approach for years. One the salt side I only have easy corals. As I I add more expensive corals I will probably add a probe. I plan to calibrate it and periodically check it against the API kit.
