I've read a few different ways to move a small tank and was wondering what the best way really is? I have an IM Nuvo 10g. All it has in it is LS and LR and I need to move it about 20 minutes away. Is there a proper way to move it without starting another cycle? Should I use some of the water or use all new?

If you just put the rock in a tub with water and your rock will be fine and you will not have another cycle. Your sand is the question if it is older sand I would just toss it out and start with fresh sand if it is only a couple/few months old you will be fine tossing it into a bucket with just enough water to keep it wet.

No need to toss out the old sand, but if it's been in your tank for quite some time I would just give it a really good rinse as you'll be stirring up some nasties that have settled out during the move..

As the sand ages it can and will build up organics and by removing it the adding it back to the tank you would have stirred it up releasing the organics back into the water causing a possible cycle. By using new sand you can avoid this. Some say to just rinse the sand really well and that is also fine but sand for a tank that size is not going to break the bank and is not wortht he head ache

Thanks, I've only had the sand in there for about 3 weeks

Then you would be fine to reuse it as is. I little rinse if you want a warm and fuzzy feeling but its not really necessary
