I've got a big rock that is just overrun with mushrooms and I want to thin them out a bit. They aren't particularly beautiful and I would love to put some other stuff on this rock at some point. Does anybody have any tips for getting them to release from the rock so I can scoop them up and give them to somebody else? They pester my pretty zoas next to them and I would like them to have more of a chance to expand too. I can irritate the crap out of the mushrooms but can't get them to let go. Thanks!

I use a good pair of sharp forceps and grab them at the base. Its not always pretty but they usually survive being yanked.

I usually take a razor and cut them off. Leaves a nub that grows a new mushroom and the cut peaces I place with some rubble in a stocking until they attach and grow more mushrooms.
Now if you to kill them off a nice butterfly fish will do that for ya overnight but then you have other problems as well lol

That is my preferred method as well :)

oh easy, just uhh. send them over to me :)
Thanks for all the replies! Musovsky you are welcome to them!

I'll give these methods a try. These things won't quit. One of them tried attaching to this rock and the adjacent rock. I moved the other rock and ripped it into pieces and of course, ended up with two healthy shrooms. There's not much else on this rock because these turds have overtaken the whole thing, so removing it and chiseling may actually be an option.

Just remember any little piece of flesh left no matter how tiny will grow back into a shroom again.
Ugh.... They are such little drama queens too. I barely start tapping on them with something metal, out come the neon green guys. Whiny guys.

If you want to eliminate aiptasia x or kali paste should do the trick. Otherwise theyll survive IB a toilet bowl of FW dang things

I have a stick shaped rock that had 2 mushrooms on them. While at work I guess either my large turbo snail or urchin knocked the rock on its side where one of the mushrooms was flat against the sand bed. Within the day the shroom ended up detaching itself and is now somewhere is my tank.... lol. Obviously you can do a controlled version of that. If they are not happy they will let go and try to find another spot. Hope that helps! Good luck .

I do have some Aiptasia X. Haven't had Aiptasia but I tried to use it to eliminate some GSP that was out of control too. It didn't work on that, but luckily my RBRA split and one settled right on top of their zone and put a stop to that. So would I just inject some straight into the mouth?

Should work remember mushrooms are more of an anemone than a coral so killing them is very similar to killing aiptasia or other pest anemones.

Good deal. If I do the Aiptasia X, how long should it take for one to conk out after I shoot it up? I'd like to try to fish it out of there so it doesn't cause me too many pollution problems!
