Anyone have any hints on packing and shipping zoa's overnight.
I have received three shipments with varying degrees of success and one that I sent out not fare so well.
First shipment I received by FedEx were shipped loose in plastic bags tied with knots. Some water leaked out and they were banging around in the bags, can't remember if it had a heat pack. But was in styro lined box. Half the zoa's never opened and just melted away. ( Rastas, hornets, space monsters etc. )
Second shipment came priority post, three days in transit (early fall). Styro lined box no heat pack. These ones were floated in a specimen cups (no trauma to zoa's) and then bagged, surrounded by peanuts in stro lined box. No leakage. Took 4-5 days to open but all made it( blue hornets )
Last shipment I received they were in specimen cups wrapped in about 10 layers of newspaper then placed in styro lined box with heat pack wrapped in about 10 layers of newspaper. Styrofoam was taped all around and I think no oxygen was able to get in box so heat pack didn't work for long. Utter chaos all melted within three days. They came across Canada FedEx overnight so my theory is they got too cold in the plane.
The zoa's I shipped back east went fed ex overnight as well.
I shipped in specimen cups surrounded by peanuts and places in styro lined box. I taped a 40 hour heat pack to the top and up about 10 layers of paper towel between zoa's and heat pack. Fellow at other end says they arrived really warm, probably too warm. All melted within a couple of days.
Is there any sure fire way to ship these little gems so that they make it in good health? Any input would be appreciated.
