I'm dosing Vibrant quite aggressively to treat bubble algae. Per the manufacturer this will kill off cheato. I'm looking for a way to store my chaeto for possibly a few months. I've heard "just throw it in a bucket", but will that work for months, does it need light, flow, heat, can the bucket be sealed? I just need a bit more detail.

And I know I could simply replace the chaeto, however I try to keep my DT as pest free as possible and would prefer to keep my established clean chaeto.

A 5 gallon bucket with a lid would be fine. Room temp, probably a hole in the lid for gas exchange.

If you are going to store it for long periods of time then you will need a light source for it. Throw in some fish food or some source of nutrients. Maybe pick up a clippable desk lamp at home depot with a more powerful bulb on a timer for a few hours a day just to keep it from dying off.
