Also i use small plastic ziplock bags or small continer where i remove some food from the the main box to feed the fishes, this way the food stays crisp hard and fresh for long.

Interesting.....but I don't think air-tight is good enough. I buy flake in 1 pound bags and keep that bag in the freezer. I have a small container, about the size of the one in the video, and just fill that up from the bag in the freeze. Flake or pellets are made from fish/clams/squid, etc., and then dried....but you still need to do that little extra if you're going to hold onto it for an extended period.

Thanks for sharing.

Freeze it or refrigerate it?

Freezer.

Dry foods are designed for storage at room temp, so some extra care might be required to avoid moisture contamination if you're refrigerating or freezing them. Moisture is very very bad for these foods.

Keeping the food tightly sealed in the original container is probably your best bet. You might need to buy in smaller quantities so you buy more frequently if this doesn't work. Consider that dry foods are already dirt cheap - don't be cheap on cheap by trying to "buy in bulk". That's OK for paper towels. ;)

If you must refrigerate or freeze, I'd pack individual portions that can be removed without thawing or exposing the rest of the stored quantity.

I decided to refrigerate mine this time, but I take out a bit in a airtight container then only get them out to fill this up. This is my first time trying this as usually I use more frozen. We will see how it does. Granted, my fish would probably eat dog food if I put it in the tank. :)

Repeatedly removing the container from the fridge and opening it will most likely lead to an accumulation of moisture in your food in the fridge. (You're in Ohio.....results be be different if you lived in a low-humidity area.)

Pre-sort the food into portions that can be individually sealed. Small zip baggies that you can fill and then stuff back into the original food container for later dispensing are one option that occurs to me.

Yes refrigerating or freezing pellets is i guess a problem. We have a very humid weather here in mumbai india, so this is how i store my food. If i dont then automatically some bugs come in it.

Just an idea:

Fill those with daily servings (they make all sizes, so get one that holds a weeks worht, or whatever) and then stuff all these littel bags back in the original jar. May not need refrigeration then....and if you do, moisture won't be an issue.

I do this when i go out of town, and tell my neighbour to feed and throw away the packet. However iv bot a food timer now.
