Hi, I’m looking for a fairy wrasse for my
75 gallon tank
I’m looking for ideas for a reef safe wrasse which also won’t eat any ornamental inverts

edit- by ornamental inverts I mean porcelain crabs and not ornamental but the wrasse should not eat clean up crew either

Well…
There’s many that are safe with wanted inverts it’s just a case if you don’t want small inverts (Sexy Shrimp).
If you want then I can give my top 5 from each genus (it’s hard to narrow it down to just 5 from every genus).

I want porcelain crabs and I have a cleaner shrimp, fire shrimp, hermits, snails, and emerald crabs

Wrasses are generally safe with them, sexy shrimp sized inverts are generally where their reef safeness is lacking. If your shrimp are dying, died or just aren’t doing well they may become food but from my experience, wrasses don’t touch food that’s healthy.
Now the big question;
What’s your price range? Wrasses go anywhere from $20 to $5000.

Not to expensive

None of the fairy wrasses will eat your CUC.

This grid has a lot of great info to help you choose your fairy wrasses. Happy Reefing!

Honestly I’ve given up on the grid as it doesn’t really have many of the new wrasses I also personally disagree with some of the tank sizes.
I do use it for complexes but I wouldn’t personally use it for wrasses that will go well in certain tank sizes.

I spent the better part of my day studying this grid (and not writing grants!) and comparing against R2R threads, liveaquaria and youtube videos. Seems like a large discrepancy in recommended tank sizes.

Here’s my top 5 (from each genus) that’ll fit into your tank size;
Cirrhilabrus isosceles - Pintail Fairy
Cirrhilabrus naokoae - Naoko’s Fairy
Cirrhilabrus exquisitus (Vanuatu var.) - Exquisite Fairy
Cirrhilabrus rhomboidalis - Golden Fairy
Cirrhilabrus lunatus - Lunate Fairy
Halichoeres iridis - Radiant/Iridis
Halichoeres cosmetus - Adorned
Halichoeres biocellatus - Red Lined/Christmas
Halichoeres leucoxanthus - Silver Belly
Halichoeres claudia - Christmas/Claudia’s
Macropharyngodon marisrubri - Red Sea Leopard
Macropharyngodon meleagris - Leopard
Macropharyngodon choati (Wait till you get experience in the Leopards before getting into this species) - Choat’s Leopard
Macropharyngodon vivienae - Vivienne’s Leopard
Macropharyngodon cyanoguttatus - Blue Spot Leopard
Anampses meleagris - Yellow Tail Tamarin
Anampses melanurus - White Spotted Tamarin
Anampses lineatus - Linear/Black Tail Tamarin
Anampses neoguiniacus - China/Black Back
Anampses twistii - Twistii
Xenojulis margaritaceus - Gold Nugget

I wouldn’t personally do Paracheilinus species in a tank less than 4’x2’ floorspace and I believe 75G tanks at 4’x18” but correct me if I’m wrong :)

Yeah a 75G is 4’x18”
And thanks

I don't see any fairy wrasses missing from the grid... which ones are missing?
I agree the grid isn't perfect, but IMO it's an excellent guide for anyone just starting to keep fairy wrasses.

Just taken a closer look at the chart and realised it was the new version, ignore what I said :)
Definitely is a great starting point with Fairies.

Although there is one fairy missing; Finifenmaa.

You will enjoy it, its peculiar swim pattern and curiousness. Mine will be up with the slightly ambient light. My gf jokes saying we need to turn off the lights so it can go to sleep.

What are you looking for? There isn’t a best in everything. Re you looking for a flashy wrasse? Are there other wrasses in the tank? Only 1 wrasse will result in dull Flasher and Fairy. If this is the case look at other genus. If you keep 2 or more the there are a million choices.
Here are a few I have. Not a complete list by far. It is all depends on what you are looking for and what are available for you, how patient you are and how good are you in getting the best out of your fish.
all reef safe
