I know this isn't really a freshwater forum but I'm sure someone here will have an answer for my problem.

My girlfriend has this little betta fish that's about 2 years old now. It seems to have developed some kind of disease. It looks like one side of the fish is very bloated, her gills are very discolored and irritated looking, an eye has swelled, and her fins don't exactly look the best.

She has been treating the fish with furan 2 for a few days now. Is furan 2 the best medication for the betta or should she use something else? I'm going to move the betta into one of my tanks that I don't use so it can have some kind of filtration of the water.

I guess it's also worth mentioning that I added some kanaplex to the water. Figured it wouldn't hurt.

Is it eating?

Your betta has dropsy/edema: http://www.bettafishcenter.com/Dropsy.shtml

But instead of going the antibiotic route, I would use Melafix & Pimafix for faster relief. I've also had success treating this with Methylene Blue.

You will probably still need to use Kanaplex once he's looking better, but that's to ensure the infection is gone for good.

Humblefish to the rescue! Haha thanks!

Sort of. Not as much as she was before but she eats some.

I would suggest feed kanoplex with seacheme focus to bind the med to the food, I would also suggest adding a small amount of vitamin c to the tank to help with the immune system and stress.
