I've been a member for a few months already and I've always intended to post here first but as the saying goes... better late than never!

I'm new to reef keeping but not to fish and aquariums. I've been in the hobby for almost 18 years with a few years break in the end. I'm eager to learn from everyone's experience and knowledge with successful reef keeping.

I've kept both freshwater and saltwater aquariums and at one point I was running 12 tanks of various sizes simultaneously, including a 125 gallon FOWLR. Yup, my wife complained that our house was starting to look like a LFS!

Fast forward to a few months ago and I'm back in the game! I'm quite impressed with the technological advances in the hobby over the past decade. I bought a RSR 525 xl and indulged in some of the new toys as I couldn't resist the high tech options that were simply unavailable to me a few years ago.

Briefly, my 5 month old system is intended for a mixed reef. I've only got a few softies and lps so far and I'm taking things very slowly given that I am still new to reef systems.

Here's a brief overview of my tank as I don't have a build thread (a little too late for that lol) :

RSR 525 xl with RSR cover
Trigger systems ruby 36 elite sump
Apex 2016 + LDK
3X Orphek V4 compacts
GHL 2.1 Doser with two part dosing
Varios 6 return pump
2X Maxspect gyres 250
2X Koralia flow pumps
Jbj Artica chiller
Skimz Macroalgae reactor 157
Aquamax Cone S2 skimmer
Coralife turbo twist UV
Tunze ATO
Aquamax RODI system
2X Icecap battery backup
(Neptune Trident is next on my list)

I have a background in biological science and all things medical, and so have taken requisite courses in microbiology, immunology, parasitology, plant biology, molecular biology, inorganic and organic chemistry, pharmacology, pathology, pathophysiology, this-ology and that-ology, etc. I can tell you that I use bits of information from each field everyday with this complex hobby of ours. My memory is also being constantly challenged as it's been decades since I sat in those classrooms lol. As long as as my fish and reef are healthy and thriving, I feel like it's all been worthwhile!
