Better lighting leaves some shadowed corners.

So, I was running a Current Marine LED (1st Gen, not the pro) and a Current 4110 (the Pro series) on my 20 long. I know the Pro is a much better light than the 1st Gen, but it is also shorter. When I saw that light was discontinued, I was able to find a really good deal on a second 4110.

When it arrived I took off the 1st gen and added the new light. The issue is that the 4110 is not as long as the 1st gen, and the corners of my tank looked shadowed. My Lepto rock is still out and fuzzy, and my zoas don't seem to be stretching yet. I know it is just as much the wavelength as the intensity of the lighting. I have a few options:

  • Go back to what I had. The 1st Gen filled up the corners. Everything was healthy, but growth was slow. Save the second 4110 for a backup.
  • Try to cram all three on the tank. It would work, but would make feeding a bit inconvenient. I can currently slide one light back a bit while I feed. Another concern is that the middle light will be right over the black hinge strip of the glass lid (multiple cats--need a lid).
  • Just go with the 2 4110s and move stuff more towards the middle and put leathers and low light LPS to the sides.
I am a little disappointed because I don't think I realized how focused the Pro LED was. I know the next size up might work better, but that is not in the budget at the moment.

Have any pictures?

So from what you have posted I would say let your current set up go for a few days or so. If you start to see any negative results it sounds like you have enough light fixtures to make the adjustments for the moment until you can afford a dif setup.

FWIW I went with a viparspectra 300w on a 40B and love it so far. Cheap and powerful. All my corals show growth and great color
