I'm thinking about adding a bicolor to my 30 g tank which currently has a royal gramma and a pair of clowns. Idk if I'm over thinking this, but will the royal gramma mistake the blenny for another gramma and behave aggressively due to the somewhat similar coloration (half yellow, half purple/dark brown) or vice versa? Would it be better to go with another blenny?

Yes, I would be weary of adding a royal and bicolor in a tank that size. The Gramma can be very aggressive with both inverts and fish (see my recent post). I do not think 30 gallons is enough space for both of them to coexist without bumping into each other all the time. It could get ugly, IMO.

I always felt like the bicolor blenny looked like someone tried to paint another fish to look like the royal gramma.

In other words, with two fish of similar coloring, one is going to look 'odd'. Plenty of other fish in the sea to choose from.

Yeah that's how I was feeling when my LFS suggested one for my tank.

I have a Bicolor Blenny and a Royal Gamma in my biocube. The royal will open its mouth at the blenny occasionally. But they do get along ok. I tried to get a photo of them near each other. The Blenny is eating the nori and the Royal is watching.
