My 14g gallong curently has a single dottyback in the tank. I am going to move it into a 30 gallon tank soon once its set up. Can any other fish coexist with it in a 30 gallon? Im ok with it being the only fish.

Your best bet is to add the new fish (whatever it may be) at the same time as you move the dottyback. If you let the dottyback get accustomed to his new tank, I doubt you'll get anything else in there to survive without a long acclimation process.

I'm wondering if you could have the dottyback in a social acclimation box while the clownfish settle in comfortably and hopefully/eventually everybody appears like they may get along.

So I should either add both fish at once or have the new arrival in a social acclimation box?

I've never kept a dottyback but understand the bi-color is territorial and aggressive. I just thought that adding the clowns to the new tank first and then the dottyback using an sa box until everyone knows each other and the clowns have established themselves in the tank. I'm just kind of thinking through this with you, as I mentioned I have no experience with dottybacks.

I do like the idea of the box for social aclimation. I know someone who has some more expirence with dottybacks so I will run the idea past them. My dottyback is hardly 1 inch so the need to move it is not too urgent although I will.

I have a bonded pair of orchid Dottybacks. They are generally more peaceful than other Dottybacks. My female hangs out with the pair of clowns most of the day.

I sure would be cool to bred bicolor dottybacks. Has your pair laid eggs yet?

Mine are orchids. They laid eggs in QT tanks after a couple weeks. They constantly lay eggs in the DT. I have no desire to raise them. It is fascinating to watch the male build and tear apart nests though. He just moves sand into rock crevices then removes it all. It's amazing how much he uses.

How did you get them to pair? I can see why you have no interest in raising the fry as raising live food is laborious.

they are very territorial i have 3 in a 210 . I want to put a lion fish in to take them out. To aggressive. What ever i put in the tank is dead i 1 day

From everything I can recall researching dottybacks, they should be one of the last fish to go in. I'd also suggest moving to it to an acclimation box until, the club wins are settled. I know you're tank is small, but you can also try rescaping the rocks while it is in the box to reduce aggression when you do release it.
