I’m just going to give it some time. If I notice any farther deterioration of the fish I will promptly act. Last night the foxface shedded even sooner so it is still every night. The breathing rate on the foxface is still a little high 100bpm. I forgot to mention that when the fish were shipped to me fedex ran really late. So maybe the fish had some damage from the shipping, that was 3 months ago though.
Thanks for everything. Lol I was really lucky with that photo of the foxface that I decided to post the picture to my avatar I liked it so much.
Just curious, do you notice the shedding by more reasons than the light yellow of the tail?
Bicolor Foxfaces happen to be my favorite fish, so I've done some research on them and currently have 6: 2 of ~4.5" in 75g Top QT, 2 of ~5" in 75g Bottom QT, and 2 of ~2.5" in 20g Tall QT.
They are capable of dramatic color changes with camouflaging coloration, primarily at night. I assume you've observed this? Due to this ability, I have noticed that the pale yellow tail is an indication of partial color changing, and mine do it regularly, both at night or if I startle them during the day and they change to camouflage coloration. If during the day, the yellow coloration gets bold fairly soon after resuming typical coloration.
For a short time, I tried to combine the 2 pairs of larger foxfaces to see if they would get along and possibly pair male/female (rather than random chance that buying them in pairs resulted in male/female pairs both times with the larger ones, though they do get along as separate pairs). I moved the top 2 (~4.5") down with the bottom 2 (~5") as the only fish in the 75-gallon bottom QT. The ~5" foxies ended up beating up the ~4.5" foxies, and, though the full camouflage coloration was not present most of the time, the ~4.5" foxies both had pale yellow tails, even for a few hours after separating them from the ~5" pair and placing them back in their top 75g QT (with a few other fishes already in the tank and had been living with the ~4.5 foxies for several months in this tank). Maybe this was also due to shedding to aid in healing the numerous small bite wounds? This is a new consideration for me due to this thread.
I have almost no experience with diseases, so I can't answer to that, but wanted to share my experience.
