Big Announcement Today on a Live Event

My point is that new customer were tricked into buying the Apex gold buy lowering the price just to clear out inventory for the new product.
My point is that Neptune didn't do anything different than any other company releasing a new product. When they offered the sale were you upset for the customers that bought their Apex the week before and didn't get the $100 discount? Those poor people were only 1 additional week out from a brand new controller announcement and didn't even get the $100 discount?

As best I can tell, the ones who are disadvantaged the most (don't you love being PC) are the LFS that bought the hardware prior to the discount and now will have trouble moving the classic version without lowering the price even more and taking an even bigger hit on what little shavings of profit might be left.

I grew with you one this!

Apple will buy back your old iPhones.
Yes, there is a huge market overseas reselling used iPhones to poorer markets. It is great to see such a huge recycling effort by a large company. It however this is like comparing apples and oranges with this discussion. I would venture to guess less then one half of one half of a percent are these phones less than a month old and people just need to have the latest and greatest. To make this even worse, at least when Apple releases a new phone it generally is worth the upgrade. This new Apex isn't worth dumping your classic version and "upgrading".

I know this is pretty tangential to its functionality, but IMO new gray shiny plastic base unit looks ugly as sin. Bring back the old off-the-shelf black flange mount case :)

I suppose I understand some of the frustration with folks that just bought their apex on sale, but doing a clearance to clear out old stock prior to releasing a new model is pretty standard business practice. There's nothing nefarious about it, and you got a good value on a proven product.

I think we also need to reframe what some folks are referring to when they say "backwards compatibility." What you are actually referring to here is "forward compatibility" in that you want the old apex brain to be compatible with the new energy bar. While that would be fantastic, it's a truly unrealistic expectation.

Your dirty old DVD player can't play Blu Rays. Your PlayStation 3 can't play PlayStation 4 games. This is just how innovation in technology works.

There is absolutely no evidence that Neptune is pushing us out of our old systems. In fact, per their FAQ, we will have access to new features for iOS notification and via Fusion. You are getting additional features on your old system without spending a single dime!

Again, I get some of the frustration, but let's also give kudos to a company that has made a real impact on the reefing community and continues to try to take the hobby to the next level.

I'm excited about the new apex. No different than the new iPhones/iPads/samsungs/TVs etc. always something newer/better/faster coming down the pipe. If you don't want your Discounted Gold Apex- put it up for sale. Someone will buy it.

If people are not happy about buying the gold, why don't they just return it?

I think and this is just me but if I just got done spending 700 on the gold and then also getting a wav set. Then seeing this announced which comes with a one link plus the added features I would be a little upset. Regardless come out to the same price in the end but still. I don't have a gold but I understand the complaints. I also think it's more then just an upgrade but a completely new controller, integrated 1 link and salinity, wifi, ability to update over wifi and if I read right the outlets are now all 7 amp and doesn't mater what gets plugged into what they are the same. I would have spent the extra 100 and bought a single wav as that's all I need plus the newer unit. Again this is just my thoughts as a user.

People went out and bought the "old" apex because it went on sale. If it didn't they wouldn't have bought it.....The new one comes out and NOW they would have spent the extra money.....Give me a break....Any and every piece of electronic equipment you own will undoubtedly be replaced by something newer faster and shinier....I bought an LCD HD tv a week before the LED tvs started rolling out and watched the prices of of LCD tvs drop by 50% These aren't investments your buying.....just suck it up enjoy the fact that you will NEVER have to reach under your stand to unplug a pump to enter "feed mode" ever again

I guess the question now is will the production and development, if there are any issues, affect the introduction of these other devices?

Looks like they've screwed over a bunch of current loyal Apex users with no backward compatibility with the EB832. Why is that? It's an aquabus device is it not? Looks like it's only a matter of time before they develop new modules that won't be backward compatible as well. Was looking forward to the new return pump and FMM module, instead just found out we're slowly being phased out. Not diggin' this trend.
you are SOOO right water dawg. I bought the new wav system (to make a long prob short) it went haywire and caused SEVERAL key components to fry with the constant hammering on off on off in the middle of the night, do you know what they did to make it right? NOTHING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!! ignored all my messages. I'm still trying to replace the components that were damaged, BAD BAD CUSTOMER SUPPORT.

Hey, i'll be happy to bid 400.00 to someone who just bought the Apex Gold and feels "tricked" into buying it, or feels stuck with it and wants the new unit. =)
I feel your pain, let me be your Painkillah!
