So infinished my first comlplete QT using tank tansfer method on my first tang and came time to add to display.

Fish was eating and looked good. So i added him. Big mistake.

Under my display lights the fish looks to have ick or something .

What do i do now? Get him out asap?

That looks like brook... is he the first fish you've added or do you have others? He also has intestinal parasites...

I had no clue about parasite either...

Whats my best course of action or is there a guide i can read.

You are going to want to pull them all, and give them a dip in either acriflavine (like ruby reef rally) or formalin, and transfer to a sterile QT. In QT, follow up with metroplex for 10-14 days. Also, soak food with General Cure + focus for 2-3 weeks, until there is no longer any stringy poop.

I order all of this from amazon but wont be here till thursday.

The only medication i have on hand is cupramine the LFS sold me.

Should i use or just wait for thursday?

Yes the inverts will be fine just ghost feed a bit to keep them eating and maintain your bio filter. Fallow period is 6 weeks for brook.

So the tang was only in my display for 1 hour and back in QT...

Is it still necessary to treat all of my fish and fallow the tank?

My LFS said only take out the tang and watch others if they become infected. But im at the point now where i dont really trust everything they tell me.

All it takes is for one tiny parasite to come off of the fish and go to the substrate hatch and find a new host. I would treat all of them and leave the tank fallow. Sorry.

OK i will do this, one last question.

OK last question and thanks for your time

Since my only infected fish was the new tang, is it better to treat him separate than all my healthy fish?
Should i be dipping them and putting them in the same 10g qt together?

I know its double the work but if it made a big difference i will treat them separately.

If you have access to a second QT tank that would lower the exposure of other fish to brook

Agree...If it were anything besides brook or uronema I’d say “throw em together to make it easier” but these two can be a little tricky to get ahead of sometimes so if you CAN QT separately, I would.

Ok so here is my treatment plan thank you @ngoodermuth and @Frtdrmrose7

I changed to one day shipping so all will arrive tomorrow. Please let me know if anything is wrong. I will quarantine the tang separate from my original fish.

  1. remove fish dip in Seachem ParaGuard for 1 hour

  2. Remove and Place in 10g quarantine and start treatments with Seachem 1-Focus, 1-Metroplex,
  3. Also mixing API GENERAL CURE with food for 2-3 weeks until no stringy poop

  4. Leave main display fallow for @ least 6 weeks
Thanks again
