I am setting up a new tank, which I WILL do a build thread for. I am having trouble deciding between the following two options:

1. Trigger Platinum sump, with built in roller mat.
2. Trigger Sapphire sump, with deltec roller mat, hard plumbed to the main drain.

My concerns are the quality and 'flimsiness' of the roller mat integrated within the Trigger Platinum sump. I believe the deltec rollermat appears to be of much higher quality, plus changing the rolls looks considerably easier. The downside of the deltec, is that it will take up more space in the sump, leaving less space for the refugium.

I was hoping that I could get some input from you guys. Thanks!

The platinum roller mat is the way to go. It is seamlessly integrated. The issues I’ve seen people having are user related. I had an issue that was my fault and they resolved it immediately.

Oh and changing the roller is super easy with the platinum.

Thank you for the suggestion. I was worried their roller wouldn’t hold up as well as the deltec. The initial capital outlay is only a few hundred dollar difference, so I could go either way.

I’m sure someone has a bad experience with the platinum but it’s a top notch sump. Not custom, but with the integrated roller it feels custom.

quick story of my issue. Setting the new tank up I had the float switches too low after I adjusted the water level for the skimmer. This lead to the roller going all night untill the roll was empty. The motor is very powerful and thankfully the gear they use broke teeth and saved the motor from burning. Over all I learned about the unit and was pretty dang happy with the over all outcome of my mistake. I contacted trigger and was taken care extremely well.
