Hey R2Rers so im moving from California back to maryland. Now this will be in a year when im out of the marine corps but wat are some steps to insure everything lives on this move?

Right now im thinking ill take leave and head home 1 month before I move back and set up another tank and let it run. But the drive cross country it my fear will everything live in a uhual in buckets or what do you all think?

I would buy a Rubbermaid container and a couple of those battery powered air stones and put as much rock as you safely can in there. Don't fill it up all the way as it'll slosh when you make turns. Do it during the summer so you don't need a heater. Maybe figure out a way to use a battery operated power head in there too. And bring a co driver and take turns driving/resting. I wouldn't stay in hotels during the drive as you might have bad luck with keeping fish alive. Put all the fish in 5 gallon buckets (2-3 per) with a smaller piece of rock, a battery powered air stone, and maybe s small bag of carbon. Setting up a tank to be waiting is an excellent idea. Get the fish into a holding tank as soon as possible. Good luck!

You may be better off selling the Livestock and restocking once you get moved.

I know that sucks but not more than loosing all our fish and coral during the move!

Well im thinking im going to gi home and show a friend how to make a salt water tank and just ship everything to him to put in the tank I set up back home

Shipping it overnight or same day is a much better option, but it will be expensive and you would have to pack for heat/cold yourself similar to how places like LiveAquaria do it. I agree with PPs the best thing would be sell the livestock and start over after the move.

I dont wanna restart because like in the hobby of cars (my other hobby) you never get out, (money wise) what you put in. But what kinda heater do they use?

What size tank and how much livestock are you planning on transporting?
