Big Mystery / Scratching my head

Cardboard is paper. It will soak as well. If you have some Saran Wrap clear plastic wrap, put that over the card board so it’s protecting the cardboard from the water. The evaporation will just get the plastic wet and make droplet’s that drop back in the tank.
Sorry my plan now is to put the cardboard on the glass and leave the top fully open no cover just the lid.

Do you think the cardboard taped or wrapped just on the front and glass panels will pick up moisture still?

Maybe the better plan would be to just black out the two windows in that room and make the room as dark as i can? ohhhhhhhhhhh snap i do have some brain power left

I was starting to feel like Lloyd Christmas in Dumb and Dumber LOL

Lol! No, not at all. I think when our stress level goes up, our ability to think clearly goes down proportionately.

cardboard on the sides shouldn’t be a problem, but making the entire room dark will help. That’s a little part of my problem. Lots of plants in the house, so trying to balance light for them to grow without trashing the tank with its own green things.

I also have two 75 gallon reservoirs. One saltwater and one RO-DI water. Saltwater is in a closet behind the DT so no light….no worry of algae. The RO-DI reservoir is I the garage. I keep the garage closed lights off as much as possible to keep it safe.

Works really good. Only bad thing is the noise the Apex doser makes when it does the auto water changes. Quite annoying. Good thing I’m old and can’t hear very well. Ha Ha!

So i found out it was 100% towels on top of my lid that caused the flood

I posted on my instagram @CanadianReefer for those that want to follow ********* shameless plug

Ok so i posted on my instagram and i got a response that the exact same situation happened to him so yeah if you cover the top of your aquarium with towels even if you have a lid and they dont contact the water they will absorb a &%** tonne of water and cause flooding and pump issues.

Never would have thought that would be a problem.........Huh

I opened up a black garbage bag to cover my tank to black out.
In fact I used a double layer.

did the towels come in contact with the tank water, then form a "Sponge Type Syphon" Plus possible detergents in towel caused over flow of skimmer and ATO dump. Just a few random possiblilities with the small amount of details shared.
This

It was the towels for sure. I cant believe how much water they sucked up that is insanity. Even though they never came within 3 inches of the surface they soaked up overnight 1-4 gallons............. Crazyness
