I,m setting up a new system and i was wondering what skimmer i should consider? The main display is 650 gallon reef with a 220 gallon fowlr and a 350 gallon sump all tied together. I will be adding to it at later date. So what do you suggest i use for skimmer ?? Thanks in advance.

Call your banker :)

Crazy. My suggestion is to get TWO skimmer, rather than one massive one. Then you atleast have some redundancy, and can take one offline to maintain while keeping the other one on.

Go with an R2R sponsor for sure! They sell top of the line skimmers!

There is a model right between these two from Warner Marine. Talk to Jon about getting one. For larger systems, we've been converted to Beckett skimmers all the way! We've been running the smaller one on our 500g system for almost a year now and love it.

Check out the Super Reef Octopus XP8000 cone skimmer rated up to 1500 gallons, goes for around $1300 plus shipping. They also have external skimmers around a grand more.

I have the 5000INT on a 300g system heavily fed and love it, even though it's still a little too big for my setup.

Thanks i was looking at that exact skimmer.

Dang! Those are some major skimmers! I have trouble keeping my alpha cone 250 clean. I think I would need to take a week's vacation to clean some of these...lol.

Those pumps on the super reef octopus look a lot like the pumps on bubble kings.

I used to run a big becket based skimmer and loved it, besides the huge pump needed to feed the becket.

ummmmm no......... volcanos are not around anymore for a reason.....

Just throwing it out there, did end with a ? for a reason, when they first hit the market I read some good things about them but I guess there were more issues down the line. I haven't been in the market for a big skimmer, or any skimmer for that matter for some time. I have been thinking of replacing my bubble king though.

the SRO 6000 to 8000 would work well on a budget. You could also try a Vertex alpha 300 or the ATB large to xl
