By the way the sump is 40x24x19. The height of the sump SHOULD contain the overflow water from the tank if the check valve does fail. Fingers crossed!

Nice build. How did you attach the wood panels to the metal frame? I about t start a build with metal frame.

I had the builder do it, but it looks like you drill a small hole in the frame and use a metal screw to attach it. That would be my guess.

Well tonight I got a chance to place my sump underneath the tank and discovered a little problem... actually a big problem! I can't get the skimmer in the sump without pulling the sump out and the skimmer collecting cup can't be taken in or out of the sump. Can't really change the stand or the sump so I may have to go with a different skimmer :Cry: Any ideas???

Will have to do some research and see what other skimmers might work.
I may have a brand new vertex alpha 200 for sale soon :Cry:

Its a in sump skimmer. I will have to get the dimensions on the vertex alpha 170, the smaller one to see if it will fit. I'm so bummed out about that.

Chris I'm not sure yet what I'm going to go with for lighting. I'm not completely sold yet on LEDs, but I do like the led t5 combo idea. So we will see, it will be the last thing I buy.

Well a little update... I will be selling the skimmer and will probably buy a bubble king mini skimmer. It should fit in the sump. I hope!

Well it's been ages since I have updated this...so I took a little break after my last problem and am ready to get back into it. Haven't sold my alpha 200 yet but just ordered a bubble king mini 200. Really didn't want to spend that much but I think it is the only skimmer that will fit in my sump. I hope! Keeping my fingers crossed!!!

I had that same problem with my vertex alpha 170 collection cup on my new build so I feel your pain. I had to sell it.

I have been considering advanced acrylics for my new sump and after seeing hours I'll be giving them a call very soon!
This is an awesome build you have going on, good luck and have fun piecing the rest together.
