Hello, I wondered if anybody could tell me if this product would be any good to use in a reef to bind metals (then use carbon a few days later to remove):

http://dennerle.com/en/products/aquarium/water-conditioning/water-treatment-care/humin-elixier

  • Binds harmful heavy metals
  • Guaranteed free from phosphoric acid
  • Mixture of valuable humic and fulvic acids

Triton have a product which uses Humic acid to achieve a similar purpose but at £26/100 ml it's out of budget (already blown that on ICP tests!)

The specific issue I have is raised copper, tin and zinc (as shown in two Triton ICP tests). Most likely from my Tunze 9004 magnet rusting out in my tank I think (since removed but the metal levels hardly dropped despite water changes).

It may work, yes. Watch for drops in pH and alkalinity when using it.

There are other products intended for reefs for this purpose, but I do not know how they compare in effectiveness. Triton Detox, Metasorb, Polyfilter, etc. :)

Thanks Randy, much appreciated.
