Hey everyone, new to r2r and beginner/novice with aquariums... I currently have a 55gal freshwater and 55gal saltwater tank. I'm currently using an aquatop fz9 canister filter with uv light. Eventually I want to change my salt water filtration to a sump with a fluidized moving bed filter, but currently working in a budget.

My question is that my canister has bio Balls and ceramic rings for bio filtration, I was wondering if there were any advantages to changing the bio Balls to k1 micro (which I already have) to gain more surface area and better water distribution. I am also planning on replacing the Rings with marine pure balls.

Currently I'm doing fish only, but I want to start adding corals by December. Thinking of starting with a couple of anemones and softies.
