I’ve seen so many modded biocubes. Has anyone had any success with a mixed reef ( LPS mostly and a few fish ) and basically using it as it came outa the box or very minimal upgrades like an intank media holder and additional powerhead and heater of course. Also using minimal filtration (floss, carbon and gfo) ? Thanks

I've got a 29 that's been up for almost two years, and is doing fine (LPS/Softie only). Only real upgrade is that I added a Hydor Koralia powerhead for some more flow. And it has the LED hood that is now standard with the 32. Anthelia, GSP, & mushrooms grow at a discernable pace. Hammers and Sinularia grow, but sloooowly. Zoas are unimpessive. Candy canes -- seem to be okay. Recently added Duncan, Blasto, Galaxea, Litho, Cyphastrea, & Sympodium -- all of which are adjusting to their new digs nicely.

Filtration is floss + biocube filter cartridges. Most of the time I've been running the biocube protein skimmer, but it almost never needs cleaning so I've recently taken it out to see how that goes. I tried the intank + GFO for a while, determined that wasn't the source of a problem (the real culprit was natural seawater), and then went back to just the bioballs that came with it.
