I'm thinking about setting up a biocube 8. For those of you who have a biocube, how do you like it? Have you done any mods?

I like my cube but it a 29. I have replaced the pump and opened up the overflow to the second chamber. I also have nano tuner 150 mh mod on it. It stays around 81 but I have central air and live in Ohio. I am thinking of getting a small chiller. I also took out the bio balls and have some live rock and chaeto in the second chamber. I do like it but there is not much stock to it. I think my next tank will not be a cube. ( I want something a bit bigger)

I like the bio cube alot, because u can alternate between atins :). You got to change the main pump thought i heard it runs warm...

I will tell you the truth if you looking for something bigger my buddy bought the new JBJ 28g it comes with a 150W HQI bulb and 4 LED lunar lights. I want one for myself. The lighting is really bright and the lunar lights are pretty intense and give a nice ripple effect like the halides. The only thing I dont like about it is the skimmer they give you it is a counter current one that uses a Limewood airstone.

to your original question. I have the BC14. It has been running since around October. I like that they put in separate switches and ballasts so you can run actinics for an hour before and after.

I took out the bioballs, added a hydor flo, covered the bottom intake, and made a small surface skimmer to help keep the top of the water crystal clear.

here are a few pics I took the other day.

storrisch - I have a BC14. Are you using the original lights? Why did you cover the bottom intake? This may sound dumb, but what is a hydor flo? Did you put anything in place of the bioballs? Any help would be great!!

Thanks edwing. I have now read that it doesn't come with an adapter for the bio-cube. Any idea how to make it stay on the pump inlet? I am thinking about ordering one. It looks great!

I just heated up one of the adapters under some hot water to make it a little more pliable and the pushed it on.

As for the center chamber....It was just empty but a month ago I put some reticulated sponge in place of the bioballs that I rinse out with my weekly water changes. I am keeping an eye on my nitrates to make sure it doesnt cause them to rise.

I am using the original lights.

I covered the bottom intake to see if it would help to keep the surface area clearer by forcing all the water through the overflow teeth.

So Jesse any updates? You getting one? :D

I decided not to get one. Sometime in the near the future I'm going to get a oceanic 30gal cube and have it drilled to make it reefready.

Biocube size 8

Hi there, I realize that you posted you would probably not get one. I actually have one and love it other than the temp stays around 81-82.5. Also, if I could do it again, I would go larger, it is sooooo small for all I would like to put in there. The only mod I have done is to replace the bioballs with LR rubble. Just got some new Zoa frags yesterday (WEEEEEE).

Hey thanks for the insight Lacy and welcome to CZ!!!!! :D

And do you have mech filtration before the rubble rock, if you still have that tank ?
