BIO LOAD VS ALKALINITY

That's because the high alkalinity is supplementing what was used since last waterchange. It's not necessarily the base line to run your tank at.

There's reasons to have high alk, but like branching hammer said, (paraphrasing) you're living in the razors edge. It can be more forgiving if your phosphates are high.

It's not near any border unless you run an ultra low nutrient system which isn't even popular anymore. Arguably corals may grow faster at higher alk if it does anything at all. You don't need high nitrate or phosphate to maintain higher alk values, just not ulns numbers.

Understood, I was really combining two issues into one and thinking out loud on another topic of lower nutrients causing another effect

Any suggestions for Silica buster? I currently run a 7 stage RO/DI, but I'm a betting man that the two diaphragms may be outdated, however the filters and DI resin are constantly changed out.
The only one I know of and can recommend is the silica buster from spectrapure.

What dobypu mean by diaphragms? Do you mean to say membranes? You can verify the their worth by testing the rejection rate. If they're not working well, or starting to have low rejection than a reverse flush or replacement is in order.

If you've been neglecting your rodi unit, than filter and membrane replacements might solve a lot of your diatom issue.

Yes the membranes. All of the other filters and DI resins are changed out every 2-3 months. I do a reverse flush once a month for 30 mins. Seems to flush ok. I’ve ordered new membranes (2)
