has anyone ever run a bio media only tank. No rock, and no sand. Only seachem matrix, and or other medias. I am trying to run a nuvo 25 with 1.5 litres of seachem matrix. The tank will be a frag tank. It will only have 2 clownfish. Just wondering how successful people have been.

I have a frag tank with just a few rocks at one end for anemones and the fish to rest, large Marine Pure block and one spare rock in the sump.

Nice so do you think 1.5 litre of seachem matrix will be good enough for 20 gallons of water. I will only have clown fish.

At 700 square meters surface area per liter I would think so. The large marine pure has 2150 square meters and my frag system is 75 gallons.

Yea half of it is matrix the other half is pond matrix. I wanted a variety of sizes so it would culture different bacteria.
