So I'm replacing my stock bio pellets for seachem matrix. 2 questions. Do i need the bag for the matrix? I do have an intank media basket so I could just put some in and close the little compartment. And other question could I just toss one of or both of the old bio rings in where my return pump is?? I have an AIO tank.

When you say bio pellets, do you mean ceramic rings or something? Biopellets are something different than bio media so that is why I ask. Never get rid of old biomedia as you will cause serious problems in the tank. Matrix should be in a bag so its easier to remove but its not necessary. You can place biomedia anywhere where it gets at least some flow.

They are the rings that came with the tank and your right. I'll toss them in the return section. And replace with the matrix in the intank media basket. It had a little door on it so I could remove them easily with out the bag.

Ah ok. There really isn't much of a difference except matrix may remove some nitrate.
