Bio pellet ?

You can. Running carbon with bio pellets is pretty pointless. You can run GFO if you feel it'll help. It put live rock or cheato in there. Only wait until the bio pellets kick in (around 3-6 weeks) or it'll starve and kill the cheato. Just IMOP and experience.

I agree. The biopellets will remove mostly nitrates and some phosphates. So running the media bags will be pointless. But you can keep them as long as you like. Also as stated above, if you still have phosphates, just run some Gfo.

Thanks for the info. Seriously torn between running gfo and carbon or the bio pellets on my cube. I like the bio pellets they seem to be kind of an all in one. Plus it will clear some room for cheato in my center chamber
Only thing I can see as a problem is finding the right balance as to not strip to muh nutrients from the water.

As the pellets break down, I'm told they create food for corals. ( what I've read, not sure how). Even if it doesn't, I love what they've done for my tank. I started very low and worked the volume of pellets up over 4 month period. I believe this helped to allow my system to adjust slowly to the addition of BP.

a couple of things that make bio pellets better than gfo. gfo has to be changed out on a regular basis, pellets do not. pellet are much cheaper that way as well. you dont replace them, you just add to them. the bacteria that sloughs off the pellets is something that your coralss can feed on, which gfo, does not do anything like that.

My only concern for you, is that, in order to run bio pellets, you need a VERY capable skimmer. One that is over rated for your tank in order to skim out the excess bio-film/bacteria that comes off the pellets. If I had a tank your size, i would run gfo.

I'm running a aquamaxx hob1 skimmer which is rated at 75 gallons. I was going to t the reactor output directly int the skimmer input. Do you think that would be sufficient?

Oh ok, that should be more than sufficient. I highly suggest using ecobak from warner marine. And start with a quarter of the suggested amount for 2-3 weeks. Then add another quarter and so on.

I also like brightwell katakyst pellets. But I've only tried NPX and BRS and brightwell.

+100 on starting with 1/4 suggested and build up. It'll let your Eco system adapt to the change better. If you have macro algae, it might die off. This is normal, as the starve in th beginning. Just pull out what turns brown. You can replace it, it only does it in the beginning .

I bought the cadlight bp reactor and have had it running for a week now. Great reactor tumbles like crazy. Next week I will add a few more pellets. I started with some pellets that have been in a system for a few months. So far so good

You should check out atomic reef reactors. Great reactor and a good price.

atomic reef is awesome.

My coral have all become brighter and really look happy. I'm in week 3. I have a tunze 9002 with an air pump pushing it. What happens if the protein skimmer doesn't keep up? Just curious what to look out for.

What size tank are you running? Assuming a small tank by the skimmer, details pleassseeee lol
