Most people who run bio pellets tend to have it prior to the skimmer so that the discharge runs through the skimmer. This is typically difficult to do in an AIO.

I have my Ecobak pellets in a TLF phosban reactor and the discharge tubing is in the area of my skimmer. Same as you seem to be looking to do.

It is recommended to start with less than the required amount, usually about 1/2. I'm been running them for many years now, so I don't recall the exact reason, but I think is has something to do with a bacterial bloom.

I didn't add anything to feed the pellets, just put them in the reactor & fired it up. I don't recall getting anything on the sandbed or any cloudy water.
