not sure if this is the correct forum but my question is

I added another large fish to my tank yest. I was worried about increase in ammonia so I added bio spira today. It says to leave skimmer off for 48 hrs but that just seems wrong. Thoughts?

Seems a bit scary but ok. I think someone borrowed my ammonia test kit but since I added fish, others haven't been eating well and one is kind of hiding some. Maybe it's bc it's a big fish and they are scared but I just figured a spike was possible. I used the only bottle I had. Treats 75 ga. My system is probably about 160-170 ga

Most of the time, adding a fish isn't an issue ammonia-wise. People rarely do anything like you are suggesting, but it isn't likely to hurt anything either.

The reason to leave the skimmer off is to give the bacteria time to settle onto rocks and such before they might be potentially skimmed out of the water.
