BioCube 29 Redux!

Small update:

So I re-arranged my rock work, mainly to find my missing fire shrimp and strawberry crab....neither of which I found. I'm assuming they both died during a night, and both were "food" for the couple of small hermits I have, as well as my green emerald and pom pom crab. At any rate, I know know they are not missing. Did a 2 gal water change as well. Pic:

Minor but sad update:

So tomorrow marks week 11. One thing everyone preaches when starting up a salt water system, especially if you want to go "reef" is.....PATIENCE! Yea.....I didn't practice what I and everyone else preaches. I added fish a bit to soon, and, lost every one I put in. The last two fish I had were a black clown Gobie (Goby) and a Rainsford's Gobie. After I re-arranged my rock work, cleaned all my filters and added new purigen and chemi blue, both hid in the rock work and, are gone.....I can only assume my cleaning actions stressed them to the point of death, and, like any good cleaning crew would do, cleaned up the remains (man, a good CSI crew would have fun with this one).

So now, I have a hand full of snails, a couple hermits, my Emerald Crab, Pom Pom Crab (I think, I havn't seen it for a week) and the two new Cleaner Shrimp that are a week old in the system....Shrimp 1 and Shrimp 2, which were given those names by my daughter referencing Thing 1 and Thing 2 lol.

So, going forward, I am doing nothing to the tank but my weekly water changes and cleaning until I move, which will be April 15. Then, will do nothing for another 30 days after the move. This should give the tank and me, time to ponder livestock and ensure the tank is ready. I may go for a few blue leg hermits, but, nothing more.

I may have to ask for the team here to remind me to have PATIENCE lol!

...then I will go with the Nanobox LED upgrade!
I did the Nanobox upgrade in my 24g nano, and really like the lights! Definitely have Dave give you 4 channels (not 2, which I have and really wish I had 4), and definitely get he moonlight upgrade. I strongly recommend the bluefish controller too! I love the setup.

I still have my hood on the biocube, so nothing can jump "out" unless it's open...I do have a dog, so if he was in the room with me when the hood was open, I'd say it could have been a possibility, just not probable lol....

Sorry to hear about fish, it is tough I know :(
Yep, this time is all about the PATIENCE for me.
I do not plan on adding anything until April 24th and that is only if everything has progressed as it should!

Good luck with your ventures in saltwater.. I just picked up a few different types of birdsnest corals from a few different local reefers around my area. Here is a shot of the tank. it is now going on 3 weeks. Most of everything came from the tear down of my other system. I just added a basic water change and new substrate.. other then that, all is old and no major cycle yet I can't combat..LOL
never mind the patch marks on the wall.. The old tank was hiding where I ripped out a shelving unit..LOL, all I really need to do is house the wiring, paint the wall, and a small section of the rear of the tank. This was a "gotta get the bigger tank down and worry about the rest later" move.

That outlet is WAY over capacity!

Good morning all, happy Thursday! It's a bright shinny day here in North Idaho, and I have a lil update. Last Sunday marked week 14. It was also the day I moved my tank from my old house to new. It was a looooooonnngggg 7 mile journey lol. I used 5 gallon buckets and a large tote to move all my water, rock, and "stuff". I did a 20 percent water change as well. The move went relatively smooth, took about 2 hours total, plus another hour for me to remove my hood and install a new Nanobox Duo.....what a cool light with great control features! So far all is good, tank is running well, no loss of inverts.

I did find my lil pistol shrimp alive and well, I haven't seen this guy for months! So, I currently have:

2 - Cleaner Shrimp
1 - Pistol Shrimp
1 - Strawberry Crab
1 - Emerald Crab
1 - Pom Pom Crab (minus one pom pom)
3 - Hermits
8 - Snails (2 were murdered by the hermits)
1 - Fighting Conch

Several Green Mushrooms
Small stalk of pulsing Z.....which isn't looking to well.

It's water test day, so we'll see how it fares, and if all good, I think I'll try adding a fishy this weekend....if I can find what I want lol! I also want to add a Serpent or bristle star, sexy dancing shrimp, Anemone Crabs.

As always, here are a few pictures:
