So I have a biocube 29 and my tunze skimmer seems to be working well but failing to keep up with my bio load. Thinking of getting a bigger hob skimmer but not sure what will fit or what's gonna be the best one for the job. Anyone have a suggestion or red flags to avoid? Thinking about aquamaxx hob-1 but don't know if it will fit.

You don't have much in there for a bio load that the tunze can't handle
if your having problems with the skimmer ask i can help .
This is a bioload

Every week I tune the skimmer and it dose great for a day but then goes back to light yellow fluid rather than dark green. It's been doing this since I cleaned out the back area where the filter is. It then gets to a point where it's just over flowing within minutes of emptying it. And the air flow is almost off. I'm at the minimum water level too just trying to keep it from not over flowing.

Have you looked at Deltec? They are now available at Battlecoral...contact Adam ...he is awesome and will answer all your questions...Deltec is seems pricey but when you see the results you will not believe it:) Here is the link...

you might want to just check 2 things that come to mind
1) check air hose for salt build up and placement
2)have the input face out toward front of skimmer instead of factory set, toward the wall

Why not put more live rubble rocks in the back of chamber instead of skimmer?
I owned the same tank like your for ~4 years don't used skimmer & i do have tunze 9004 that i'm not using it.
water level has to be right for the skimmer to work properly.
But i think Aquamaxx hob1 is your best choice

Never thought about the intake so I'll try that.
