I’ve been debating whether to build an anemone tank for a while, just didn’t feel like spending a grand on everything (which is what it’d always come to).

My 6yo rainbow bta is taking up too much space in the RSR350 and after I moved it decided to split, pics attached. Plus it’s always good to have another tank :)

Long story short, petsolutions has tHe biocube on sale for $170 so I pulled the trigger.
It’s the LED version and I assume the lights are inadequate for the nem? It’s getting around 150 par now in the middle of my tank and not moving.

Any suggestions for a reasonably priced DIY led solution? I saw Steve’s led retrofits but at the $300 price point I’d rather get an AI prime or even a kessil. Ideally though I’d like to keep the original top it comes with and add in some strips.

All other tips on what I’ll need appreciated too! I plan to keep it very lightly stocked, most likely only 2 black & white or phantom clowns. Thanks!

I’ve seen folks using sbreeflights basics and also the sprite in the hood. Any black box basically.
I’d pull the lenses though. That’s a LOT of power at 1%.

There are some 12in B.B.s too. Inkbird makes one.

Thanks for the leads, I checked the SB installation video and it requires more work than I’d be able to do without destroying the hood :)

What do you think of 12” Reefbrife LumiLite 50/50 strip? Would I need 1 or 2? They don’t post PAR or even wattage on their site.

Geez. Not sure on those. I def Think theyd work. In all honesty, I’d put 2 - 4 or whatever fits. Then just adjust the photo period , longer I’d you need more light.

But if your at 150 mid tank, (that should be fine) and add two easy strips , you should be just fine. As well.

Thanks! I’m getting 100-120 with the stock lights, if I can trust Seneye, but the spectrum is off. The nem is currently getting 200 and hasn’t moved so I’d prob have to get 4 which gets pricey...would be nice if they posted some performance data.

I’d actually trust the Nems opinion.

They’ll let you know if they are not happy.

Thanks again! Sorry to bug more, but hopefully last question. I thought I was gonna keep this build on budget (although I guess I set myself for failure when I didn’t come up with one...)

I’m leaning towards the AI Prime HD, last night after spilling water all over while adjusting salinity I realized I don’t mind the look of the biocube without the hood. However, can’t seem to find PAR reviews, do you think it would work?

The reason it’s not in a cart on some website was this http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2509079

Granted it’s the older version and a different tank but that’s pretty low at 7”...guess could run it at 100%.

Running out of ideas, but feels like the AI 26 HD or Kessil would be an overkill. Thanks!

I’d go to the ai website. There’s a very detailed spec sheet there.

You actually have enough light to do what you want right now. If that helps save some cash.

With led bc 16, I get 259 top 80 bottom. I think one nem will have enough light with that.
