Hello R2R!
As some of you may know, I'm new to these forums. Here is my first build post, so let me introduce to you guys my Biocube 32!
This 32 gallon nano mixed reef tank was created on exactly March 10, 2018, making it 7 months old. I absolutely adore it, and am quite proud (even though there's some algae, I probably should of scraped for the picture), since this is my first tank, and I built it through my own funding as a high school minimum wage worker
.
Livestock Includes:
-x2 Mocha Ocellaris Clownfish
-x1 Orange-Spotted Goby
-x1 Possum Wrasse
x1 Cleaner Shrimp
x1 Hawaiian Feather Duster
x2 Rose Bubble Tip Anemones (split from one)
x1 Tiger Pistol Shrimp
x1 Emerald Crab
x2 Nassarius Snails
x5 Trochus snails
x1 GSP
x1 Xenia
x2 Euphyllia (Frog/Octospawn)
x1 Trumpet
x1 Zoanthids
x1 Birds Nest
x1 Rainbow Acan
x1 Red Pom Pom Macroalgae
x1 Red Bubble Macroalgae
And of course, I'm still stocking!
The filtration is pretty simple, I have chemipure blue which I now replace every 4 months, and I've reduced the filter floss changing to only once a week (not much collects if I replace it earlier). I also use sera siporax to control phosphates. I have live rock and live sand, but I also put 5 cubes of marinepure for more biofiltration. I used to do water changes every week, but I've switched over to once every two weeks, I find that disturbing the tank too often will hinder coral growth. I haven't seen many noticeable changes since I've switched to biweekly water changes.
I feed mysis once every 2 days, but I might switch back to regular everyday feeding. During my 2 week trip to Hawaii over the summer, the tank got very dirty, and I am STILL trying to fully recover from the huge green algae outbreak that occurred during that time. Everytime I feed, I soak the mysis in selcon, as it gives the vitamins needed for healthy fish. Every Sunday, I disperse a measured amount of reef roids in my tank, which have made noticable differences to my coral growth rate. That xenia you see there? It used to be as big as that feather duster over there. It grew to that size in literally two months. My GSP wasn't growing very fast either, until I started to feed reef roids, and they now cover the rock island they're on.
My tank has a lifespan of until I go to college, but I still got about 1 and a half years of this thing, and I am very excited to see what the future holds for it.
I hope you've enjoyed reading my first build thread, have a nice day, and happy reefing!
