Hello. We have a new tank (4 months) and I'd like advice on water flow.

Which direction should the stock circulation spout be pointed? I have it pointing up and toward the center of the tank to break the surface.

I have a standard biocube circulation wave maker add-on attached to the opposite side of the rear of the tank, pointing out or toward the side or toward the middle.... I have been trying to move the angles of these to satisfy the corals, but never are all of them happy.

What are the best angles for water flow and best placement of the wavemaker? Should I place it on the side rather than the back? I've heard what I'm doing can create a nitrate farm in the back of the tank. New and still learning. Thank you for taking the time to respond.

I would not push water away from the overflow grates because you want the food/waste to easily get to the filtration. I've always put my wave maker on the left side to keep things flowing from left to right. Also, I know you are trying to make your corals happy but I've always found that it's easier to move the coral instead. It's annoying to adjust the flow to only find out another coral isn't happy now. Set your pumps and leave it. Move the Corals where they are happy and glue them down. You could always add small powerheads to add more directional flow. Amazon sells these small adjustble pumps that are like 80 gph that are about 2 inches. I think they are great to get flow in areas that are stagnant. Obviously this isn't the key to success, but just throwing some ideas out there for you.
