Back in the hobby after many years. Starting from a fresh view point and eager to learn. Would love to do corals and a few fish in this setup. Tank has been up for a few days and my plan is to add a clown and microbacter start to start cycling. Open to other ideas. Also, lights off for now correct? Protien skimmer while cycling?

15 pounds dry live
10 pounds base
20 pounds live sand

Super excited to get a tank back in the house.

Welcome back.

We have a thread here for Minimalist Reefers. There is a link in my signature below.

I have two 40g tanks that are aio (All In One) systems. One is locally collected livestock and the other is all sps & lps coral.

I've always preferred a Fish-less cycle. What has seemed to work the best as of late is live sand teamed up with dr.tim's one and only.

What are you using for ammonia source? Raw shrimp?
In that video I used Dr. Tim's Ammonium but I have found there is an ammonia source in the live sand. Too much ammonia can cause problems with the cycle. Which I've learned the hard way when I opened my store. If you are not using live sand I would use an ammonia source.
