I have a 29g Coralife BioCube and have issues with keeping water temperatures below 80 degrees during the day. I have been researching the LED retrokits out there and between the one offered by stevesleds.com and rapidled.com i am leaning towards the former because of ease in installation. I am also considering just removing the lid and going with a hanging LED fixture that is programmable by reefbreeders, com (the Reef Breeders Photon 16). The issue that the hanging fixture would introduce would be increased water evaporation.
The other issue my wife Isabel is most concerned about is that there is no data on the long term effects of these LED's on the coral's health. So far from what we have found online most people have noticed increased growth and coloration in the short term.
If any of you reading this thread have any experience with these LED lights any advice would be welcome.

Dont worry about the overall time fram of LEDs on Corals. They have proven them worthy, they work out just as well as Halides. Only down sides were people using to small a watt of LED or not enough LEDs.

If you take the top off order a glass or plastic top. This is good for a number of reasons including evap. If your tanks already over heating a bit then taking the top off will really increase the evap. You should look into changing the fans out in the hood no matter what you go with (that is if you leave the hood on). That will help with your current heat problem and with cooling LEDs later on.
