Anyone know some goods mods I can do to my biocube 32 I want to start with lighting but want to keep the stock hood any suggestions?

I can’t help with the question, but I can bump the thread to see if we can get you some assistance

I’m about to restart my 2 year old cube and plan on using AI 16HD lights on my cube. No sure if I need 1 or 2 for the cube. Whatever you do don’t get any Xenia. No matter when you place it all it take is a little piece to float to a rock and you’ll have what I have.

Just started a new tank and moved most of the coral and the AI lights make the coral pop way better then the biocube stock lights.

I modified a biocube 29 in 2014. It is still up and running. One of the first things I modified was the hot PC lighting it came with. Like you, I wanted to keep the hood so I did.
Back then, rapidLED, put together, a retrofit DIY kit, specifically for biocube 29, and other cube models like JBJ.
It came complete, heatsink, 24 selected LED’s either solder-on or no solder, powersupply, storm controller and drivers.
They also had instructions to gut the PC fixture, leave the 2 factory fans in place, and install the heatsink with LED’s attached. The factory plastic lens covers everything so water is kept out.
Only problem, now, I look at there site and these kits are no longer available.
I would imagine there was probably a legal problem with Coral Life and or other manufacturers.
You can contact them reference those kits. Maybe they will help and get you what you need to put it together. If not I can show you pictures of my installation at home.

My biocube mods are as follows:
1) Removed Cover.
2) Added AI Prime HD and mounting bracket
3) Added Aquamaxx HOB Skimmer
I am enjoying the tank atm. I have a mix of corals.

Check out Steve’s LEDs.
I looked them up and yes, they make a retrofit LED kit for Biocubes. Although, in their mod, they gut all the electronics including the factory fans. There heatsink includes fan and LED’s are already installed on the heatsink. More plastic cutting of the hood also. The RapidLED one I installed required the factory fans to stay in.

I looked into them early last year but felt it was too much for what I had. I think Steve’s would be more appropriate for a sps dominant tank. I have sofies, lps and a couple easy sps. Every thing grew great with the stock lights but in the end I wanted more blues for more color pop, especially with whites on. I just added 2 12 inch actinic blue leds.

I have the Steves led in my 32. you do keep the factory fan and the board. The lights and 1 plug that runs them is all i had to remove. yes, you cut some of the vent plastic for the new fan on the lights but its for increased flow for cooling the lights. Have had them running around a year now with no issues from the lights. currently growing a mix reef but have zero issues providing adequate lighting.
