Hey guys I got a 14 gallon tank. I had it for 8 months with corals but now I hit a wall. I got a mandarin from a friend since he was moving. He gave me some stuff like a zoa, clowns and a couple corals. I want to keep the mandarin. Should I buy a hang on the back or but algae into the tank? I need stuff like copepods so I dont know what to do now. Unless I wanna feed my mandarin something else.

doesnt matter what you want him to eat, he will only eat what he wants. imo 14g is waaaayyyyyy to small to keep him in. the best thing you can do is start a copepod culture to feed him with. actually very simple i have kept one going and my dad keeps one going for the mandarin he has in his 40 breeder.

You could get live copepods from from the LFS and shoot it in the tank like 15 times a day or you cold try to train it to eat baby mysis/brine but in a 14gl you have about a week before that thing is dead from starvation I would recommend taking it to a LFS to trade it in or pass it on to someone with 50gl or more. The pods come in a bottle and are quite expensive or like said above a culture, but you can train it with patience to eat brine/mysis but odds are not in your favor imo with a 14gl

I agree with Steven here.

There is no way a HOB or internal refugium that is sized for a biocube 14 will sustain a mandarin. You would need to drill the tank, add a sump, and put a big fuge in the sump.
