I'd imagine it would be possible but you would probably end up doing bigger water changes than the fresh water world does

Protein skimmer in my opinion is a must have. Some people will say you can get away without. But you will be doing water changes more often to keep the phosphates, nitrites, and nitrates down

Very possible!! Water change required. Just search for pico jar tanks and stuff on here.
