Hi and thanks for reading. Last week I decided to switch from vodka to using a biopellet reactor. My question involves the tumbling. I have a converted phosban 150 reactor with the npx pellets using a mj1200. I've noticed that only about 1/2 to 3/4 of the pellets are tumbling. Is this normal? Should I be concerned that one side isn't tumbling or am I ok to just leave it? Thanks.

I have had a similar problem with the TLF 150 reactor. I think it's an issue with the reactor and the type of pellets. I use the same reactor and just changed over to ecobak pellets and they tumble just fine. You should look up the ecobak thread here. It's very informative.

Thanks, I'll have to give the eco bak pellets a shot. I have heard good things about them, but couldn't find a place to order them.

The ecobak will not clump, unless you dump a lot of nutrients into the tank. Also the amount of pellets determine how well they tumble. You also want to add them in quater amounts. Start with 1/4 the suggested amount and wait 3-4 weeks before adding another 1/4 and so on.

Thanks for the link to them Dowtish. You don't by chance have a video of your biopellets tumbling do you? I keep hearing people say gentle tumble, but all the videos I see have them flying all over the place. Just trying to get a good idea of how it should be.

Dowtish is right on the money. I think there are some youtube videos of the proper tumble. I may have even seen one posted here on R2R.

Wow! Yeah the npx pellets I have right now are not tumbling anywhere near that. I barely even have any in there. Hopefully the ecobak pellets should be here soon and I can see if that makes a difference, if not I guess I'll have to keep troubleshooting. Thanks for the help guys.

wow, after watching that video I am going to have to SERIOUSLY take a look at my reactor. Mine tumble but nothing like that

I started my pellet journey with the NPX pellets. You'll find that they're much smaller in size than the ecoBAK is. I mixed some ecoBak with the NPX so I didn't loose the effect of the pellets. The flow characteristics have changed due to the size and shape of the ecoBak.

I just wanted to update this thread to thank you guys. I received the ecobak this morning and after a little soak, I took out the npx and put the ecobak in. The difference is amazing! I can't believe it. Thanks again guys, I really appreciate it.
