I added some more bio pellets (about a 1.5 cup) to my bio pellet reactor. And now they are tumbling much slower then before. Im not sure if they are going to slow or not. What do y’all think?

Unfortunately cannot see the video. Check out the YouTube video below - they should be going about like what is seen at 8:24. Is your pump working correctly? Do you have too many pellets in the reactor for the size of the reactor/pump?

Why use more pellets, than recommended for tank volume? I actually use a little less to keep from stripping the tank of needed nutrients for my Corals and Anemone.

Do we know the volume of the tank, or his bio load. But - I agree with you - with biopellets often less is more - and quick changes are often problematic. But unfortunately I cannot see the video.

I think your video is too big to download.
If they are moving the are fine.
Read the comments before mine.
I never used biopellets because folks warned me they can easily be overdosed and strip nutrients.

Sorry I didn’t realize the video doesn’t work. And it’s only 10 seconds so It can’t be too big. Weird…

Huh? I only have 3 cups of pellets, which is the recommended amount for my 150g system…

Ok this is the answer I’m looking for. My pellets are tumbling about just as fast then the his in the video. This helps. Thanks.

I don't want to necessarily speak for someone else - but - when you said you added 1.5 cups 'more' - it was a little unclear. If you have a total of 3 cups adding 1.5 cups (i.e. doubling) might be a little too much. I don't know how much experience you have with Biopellets - but often it's recommended to get up to the 'recommended dose' over weeks. Again - apologies if I'm telling you something you already know! Good luck with your tank

I HAD 1.5 cups of pellets, then ADDED 1.5 cups of pellets. I never said I had 3 cups before adding more. This comment was really unnecessary.

1. Settle down. I said I apologize if I'm telling you something you already know.
2. Re-read my comment (and your OP) - I said it was unclear.
3. I know you didn't say you had 3 cups up front. I pointed that out in my comment - my comment was that doubling the amount of Biopellets from 1.5-3 cups at one time MIGHT be too much

Best wishes with your tank

The tumbling of the pellets is just to ensure they don’t clump and that water interacts with them. As long as there is some movement by all the pellets you should be set.

Good to know. Then I’ll not mess with the flow to much since they seem to be tumbling pretty fast now. Thanks.

Any issues with you going from 1.5 -> 3 in one swing? It's always been said to add them slowly, but that's very subjective as you pointed out. Any issues with the doubling?

no issues as far as I could tell. Just less nitrates(:

I wonder why the rule of thumb is to start slowly or else the sky would fall. We all know it takes 4-6+ weeks to properly seed where you start realizing benefits. That time is based on how long it takes the bacteria to colonize to do their jobs. So what’s the harm with giving 2x the pellet opportunity to feed bacteria.? Assuming the tank is a mature balanced tank it should be disastrous The tank can handle it.

I’ll gamble. Doubling mine tomorrow on week 2 in a 180g. Pellets initially seeded last week after 24 hrs in bacter7. 1 cup right now. I’ll move to 2 tomorrow. :)
