Mine is not eating pellets frozen food or even eggs. I thought it would eat more than pods. I just got mine yesterday but worried because he is tiny. any advise? I have a refugium started this past weekend. TIA Rich

I would give him time to settle in. I would also give time for the pods to reproduce in the Refugium. If he is still not eating on friday i would try to soak little peices of frozen in garlic or selcon to maybe entice him to eat. Also try and take a turkey baster and blow some in his location. You said he was a little guy,so the smaller the food, the better chance he is to eat.

thanks. I think she is eating oyster egss. Not sure since the eggs are tiny but she has started to move around when i fed her. Not sure where to get bbs.

look for nutramar ova and by some. look up Melevs mandarin feeding station too. Get some tisbe pods from reef nutrition. and some phyto feast. itll feed the pods.

sorry not a great picture. Taken with my iphone and she is sort of far.

So mandys IME are a bit more like cats than other fish Ive had. Kinda turn thier noses at food very often. also fish need some time to get used to the tank. The couple of fish Ive had(not mandys), that were tank bred acted exactly like wild fish for several days or more and even refused prepared foods. eventually thay did at "dinnertime" figure out what was going on. Mandys take longer. Plus they're pickers, just little bits especially at first.

SO by combining the feeding strategy you cover all the bases. (my mandy now taps the glass at 7pm).
If you have chato I would seriously consider putting it in the tank. Id bet it has pods and bugs on it. The fish should, start eating frozen foods as soon as for whatever reason they decide, like it. I highly recommend rotating the foods though, OVa, baby brine shrimp(spirulina gut loaded), etc. My first mandy only ever really ate the Ova regularly. once they stopped making it he went down hill fast.

I'm going to share my experience (a positive one so far, this is day one) here just in case someone else wants to give them a try. I got mine from biota today. Arrived in the mail early this morning, I acclimated him and left him in my dark tank for him not to stress. He went and hide for a while, I spotted him nipping at the rocks on the side of my tank like an hour ago, decided to try some Nutramar Ova and he started eating with no problem whatsoever.

He is super tiny though, smaller than a candy cane pistol shrimp, just fyi.

I cant express how happy I am that he eats frozen foods, hope he keeps doing good.
