Bird's nest lost battle - what to do?

Hello, A hermit crab or snail broke my bird's nest free and it landed on a Monipora cap. When I got home from work I moved it but it had a tip that wouldn't and hasn't opened it's polyps. This is the second day.

Is it better to leave it as is or break off the damaged tip?

Mine always grow back, my vote is leave it unless algae grows on it, which inhibits coral flesh from healing. I've broken frags into a handful of pieces and the dead part always grows back if the frag survives.
