my green birds nest has been coming along great showing a little growth. I’ve had it for a month then all of yesterday it just closed up, this morning there was polyp extension then all of a sudden closed up. I haven’t moved it and nothing drastic in my tank has happened. I took a picture with looks like some white bumps and I can’t tell if this is new growth or something else thank you

Would just leave it for now. All of my bn's will do this from time to time. If its not open tomorrow maybe doing a water change will help.

I’m definitely taking my water to LFS, I check water parameters and were on spot except for alk at 11 and phosphates at .5... but I am getting ready to do a WC tomorrow

Not a bad idea. I would also send out an ATI or Triton icp test as they test a lot more than just the basics. Helps to verify everything is where it should be and there are no contaminants in the tank.

Are you using ro/di water? Do have some test kits of your own?

I'd be curious to see where parameters are at. That's the first thing I do when something looks off in my tank, pull out the test kits and run what tests I can.

Nitrate 5
Ph 7.8 (noon)
Phosphate .5
Alk 11
And yes ro water

Weirdly enough, birdsnest, while being supposedly largely easy to grow, seems to be the one kind of coral I struggle with in my SPS dominant system. Other “high end” and finicky acros do just fine.

To note, I will say that I’ve seen issues tied to all, and your all is pretty high. Especially is your nutrients are so low. Might be something to check into.

****alk, not all

Looks like irritation rather than new growth. Maybe move it down from your lights some and ck your parameters. Did you dip for parasites before you added to your tank ?

Funny thing is I struggle with birdnest also. All other SPS do wonderful. Anyways I was going to comment on the high alk also. I would look into that
