I just noticed this spot on one of my birdsnest frags. Should I cut it off and hope to save the top or leave it and hope it was just stung?

Nothing else in the tank looks stressed. It's in a 75 gallon and I did a 5 gallon WC earlier today. I dipped some zoas in coral rx after the water change and now that I think about it some were very near the damaged area. Could a zoa frag emit enough toxin from a couple egg rate squares away to do this?

Alk 7.7
Calc 360
Ph 8.3
Sg 1.025
Temp 77.9

Nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, phosphate are all 0

I'm no expert and am on the road of knowledge in all of this stuff, but I would say that 0 nitrate and phosphate are probably not good for it...need to get those up a little.

As far as cutting, I would like to know too because I have a similar issue with my stylo

Why was this thread moved? If it's RTN I'd say that's a pretty big emergency.

Moving it to the SPS forum will get more eyes on it.

Looks to me that it could be shading that's caused it. How quickly is the tissue receding?

Lack of P04 and N03 isn't good.

Looks to be Tissue Necrosis. You can frag the top but unfortunately seriatopora doesn't do well fragged after TN has started. I have lost a good bit do to this.

However, I would frag the top and dip it in an iodine based dip to help heal it.

Also, agree with above about your nutrients. Need to get your NO3 and PO4 up. Your calcium seems a little low also.

Gotcha, thanks. Honestly I don't know if it is. I just noticed it, but I know it wasn't there this morning. Right now I'd say it's not progressed any since I first noticed.

Maybe move it up in the tank?

Maybe turn it or place it where light can reach that side. Watch it closely. If it's RTN, it will bleach quickly.

Thanks for the help folks. I'm planning to rotate it slowly tomorrow so as to not shock the underside.

Would dipping in medicoral help?
Will the polyps grow back? If not, I don't feel bad about chopping the bottom off.

Try moving it first.

Doesn't appear to be shading. With shading you will still have polyp extension but the polyps will be white. You can clearly see the tissue hanging off the bottom. I would frag it asap.
