I have been looking at this guy for 2.5 months, and today I figured out it is alive. I saw the tiny white fingers retract and it closed. Any ideas?

I have empty barnacle shells all over a couple of these rocks. Definitely not a barnacle.

Hard to tell, but harmless

It’s a type of mussel. I have a similar one in my tank. I Just don’t know the exact species. He bothers no one. Not even the rock flower he’s under.

I have at least 4-5 of these guys, like the above poster, mine bother nobody and seem to thrive. If you want, you can pry them off and either remove them, or place them somewhere else.

i have a couple of those... harmless filter feeders, but unsure of what kind of bivalve

These mainly come in with wild caught zoa and are harmless and not long lived. Often called a clam or mussel, they are actually part of the scallop grouping

Thanks all, I was not worried if it was harmful because, well, it is slow...

Just curious for my own knowledge.
